Contemporary Fiction

The best contemporary fiction books aren't always the titles listed on the best seller lists.  These days, the best contemporary fiction is coming from relatively unknown authors who are quickly becoming 'up-and-coming writers'.  Many are using social media tools, such as TweetAdder, to automate their growth.  This is befitting for authors whose works take place during our modern times.  A great way to find your next contemporary fiction read is to browse the pages of Book Club Reading List.

Book Club Reading List distributes a quarterly newsletter to book clubs informing them of authors who want to attend your book club meetings by phone, Skype, or in-person to discuss their novels.  To find a book in this genre, follow the link below.  Select a title, read through the book's summary, and find the author's contact information.  It's that simple.

For your convenience, we've highlighted a few titles from Book Club Reading List below:

A Hook in the Sky
The story is told with irony and compassion, and if you liked Deborah Moggach’s The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel or Louis Begley’s About Schmidt, both classic Baby Boomer novels, you are going to love this book – because this is essentially a baby boomer novel or BB novel, a new genre focused on the challenges of retirement or “coming of old age”, just as YA novels address coming of age.

Flashes and Specks
Henry Kent is a father, husband, teacher and would-be superhero. This is a story of right versus wrong that explores faith, logic, and the tenuous nature of reality and sanity. As the end of the world approaches, watch how this man attempts to live his life in the face of madness and torture.

A Stop in the Park
Is the modern American dream still a reality, even if you are one of the privileged few? Michael Stolis, a DC attorney, is simply frustrated. He's had it with working 12 hour days. His lucrative career, Georgetown brownstone, and BMW coupe haven't delivered the happiness he thought it promised? Now, wrestling with an overactive temper and desperate housewife, Michael finds hope in the words of a retired bus driver he meets in Dupont Circle over a game of chess. Will this new friend's advice bring the fulfillment he so craves? Or, is it too late to change his life, chase down his dreams, and revive his marriage?
